About
Video Games! How did I get here?
I was introduced to video games in the era of Nintendo’s Gameboy Advance. I decided to become a game developer in my final year of high school upon discovering my curiosity for programming. I then spent 4 years at Sheridan College getting a degree in Game Design. My disciplines within game development are UI/UX, systems design, and game mechanics design. My favourite genres are action/adventure, racing, metroidvania, rpg, and looter-shooters. I love making games as much as playing them. I try to play as many games as I can because I believe there is something I can learn from each of them.
Outside of Games
I love nature! After working at the computer all week I enjoy going out for long hikes along the Bruce Trail. I have a life goal of thru-hiking it and several others if I get the chance in-between game projects.
I also love sports in general. I’ve been playing ice hockey for the Brampton Canadettes Girls Hockey Association for the past 15 years. My newest passion is rock climbing, specifically bouldering. I climb multiple times a week! I also have a dream of becoming a go-kart driver.
Core Philosophies
Hard work will always beat raw talent
Hard work is an aspect of one’s character. It lives within the mind. Talent is an aspect of skill. Skills can be acquired far easier than the character to work hard. The talented who don’t work hard will stagnate. Hard workers will grow talented.
Work smarter, not harder
Hard work can take you far, but an introspective mind will take you even further. Always be questioning: how can I be more efficient? How can I do better?
Good UX takes the player to the core of the game as efficiently as possible
We can read all the academia we want about UX but the fact of the matter is that each problem is unique. I find that this principle is helpful to return to when faced with doubt.
